Privacy

Valley View School District (the “District”) is committed to respecting its website Users’ privacy and protecting any personal information shared. The District takes the issue of privacy very seriously and values the trust the User places in the District each time the User accesses the District’s services and website. This policy describes the practices the District has put into place to safeguard any personal information that may be gathered and used by the Illinois State Board of Education (“ISBE”) during the User’s visit to the District’s website.

Website Privacy Statement
The District respects the privacy of all website Users to the extent permitted by law. This Website Privacy Statement is intended to inform the User of the ways in which the District’s website collects information, the uses to which that information will be put, and the ways in which the District will protect any information the Users choose to provide the District.

There are four types of information that this site may collect during a User’s visit: network traffic logs, website visit logs, cookies, and information voluntarily provided by the User.

Network Traffic Logs
In the course of ensuring network security and consistent service for all Users, the District employs software programs to do such things as monitor network traffic, identify unauthorized access or access to nonpublic information, detect computer viruses and other software that might damage District computers or the network, and monitor and tune the performance of the District network. In the course of such monitoring, these programs may detect such information as email headers, addresses from network packets, and other information. Information from these activities is used only for the purpose of maintaining the security and performance of the District’s networks and computer systems. Personally identifiable information from these activities is not released to external parties without the User’s consent unless required by law.

Website Visit Logs
District websites routinely collect and store information from online visitors to help manage those sites and improve service. This information includes the pages visited on the site, the date and time of the visit, the Internet address (URL or IP address) of the referring site (often called “referrers”), the domain name and IP address from which the access occurred, the version of browser used, the capabilities of the browser, and search terms used on District search engines. Like most standard website servers, the District uses website statistic packages such as Google Analytics to analyze trends in how its website is accessed and utilized. Information monitored includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, geographic location of visitors (country, city), browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, time spent on pages and keywords used to find the District’s site vis search engines. This information is anonymous and cannot be directly linked to individual Users. The District may use it to identify high-use or low-use areas of the site, pinpoint problem areas of the site, analyze broad demographic trends in the District’s website Users, and make decisions about how to make it easier for people to find and navigate the District website. This site makes no attempt to identify individual Users from this information; any personally identifiable information is not released to external parties without the User’s consent unless required by law.

Cookies
A cookie is a small text file stored by the User’s browser that allows the website to “remember” their preferences (such as calendar settings and site bookmarks) on the site from visit to visit, or to maintain their “logged in” status when visiting protected areas. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to personally identifiable information while on the District’s website.  The District’s website may use cookies for two purposes: to carry data about the User’s current session at the site from one webpage to the next and to identify the User to the site between visits. If the User prefers not to receive cookies, they may turn them off in their browser, or the User may set their browser to ask them before accepting a new cookie. Some pages may not function properly if the cookies are turned off. Unless otherwise notified on this site, the District will not store data, other than for these two purposes, in cookies. Cookies remain on the User’s computer, and accordingly the District neither stores cookies on its computers nor forwards them to any external parties. The District does not use cookies to track the User’s movement among different websites and does not exchange cookies with other entities. Please be aware that rejecting or deleting cookies from the District’s website may make certain functions unavailable to the User.

Information Collection and Use
The District does not collect any personal information unless the User voluntarily provides it. In the course of using the District’s website, the User may choose to provide the District with information to help it serve the User’s needs. For example, the User may send the District an email to request information, an application or other material, and they may sign up for a mailing list. Any personally identifiable information the User sends the District will be used only for the purpose indicated. Requests for information will be directed to the appropriate staff and may be recorded to help the District update its website. Personal information submitted will not be transferred to any non-affiliated third parties unless otherwise stated at the time of collection. The District will not sell, exchange, or otherwise distribute the User’s personally identifiable information without their consent, except to the extent required by law. The District does not retain the information longer than necessary for normal operations.

Where consent for the use and disclosure of personal information is required, the District will seek consent from the appropriate person. In the case of student’s personal information, the District will seek the consent from the student and/or parent/guardian depending on the circumstances and the student’s mental ability and maturity to understand the consequences of the proposed use and disclosure.

Each webpage requesting information discloses the purpose of that information. If the User does not wish to have the information used in that manner, they are not required to provide it. Please contact the person listed on the specific webpage, or listed below, with questions or concerns on the use of personally identifiable information.
